AUSTHRAL

Genre(s): Folk / Black Metal

Formed in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina - 2000. Started in 1999 as a joke band called Kriegerstein. Some years later the band became more serious and the name was changed to Sepher. Around 2004 folk influences were incorporated to their sound and the name was finally changed to Austhral. The Austhral Florianopolis is a band that calls itself one of the only representatives of an authentic national folk metal. With influences from traditional rhythms Southerners like gaucho music, baroque music and tango, the Austhral tells stories of his land by means of conceptual metal. In its formation has always had gauchos, Santa Catarina and Parana who have close links with the region's culture. The sound of his compositions have been compared with bands like Finntroll, Thyrfing, Old Man's Child, among others. But musicians ensure that they are not direct influences of his work. "They were the inspiration at the beginning to the creation of the band," says Cristian Derosa, guitarist. "If the people of Scandinavia has the right to be proud of what they are, why, then, we do not we?" She asks. But the differences between them and the Nordic metal is accurate. The scales remarkably inspired by the tango and flamenco, as well as in Chote or chamamé (styles authentic gauchos), demonstrates the great point of originality of this band from the capital of Santa Catarina. "Many styles available in southern Brazil came with European immigrants and, therefore, invariably resemble bands like Finntrol and that is why it is even difficult to find the right tone of the mixture. We avoid anything that seems too Nordic. We seek to influence only the sound of the South and that's what's the big difference between us and the bands that call themselves Brazilian folk, because what they do is European music, that's all, "says the guitarist. A large sample of this difference and originality is engraved on his first album played the wind, released by Face The Abyss Santa Catarina, in January 2008. It is possible to find many different influences, both of southern music and classical music, because the demand Austhral tell of epic form the numerous wars that marked more than two centuries of history of that region. The idea began when the brothers Marlon Derosa and Cristian decided to create a band with something more than what was being done in the music scene of Santa Catarina. Rehearsals began in 2004 with an initial training of three members - two brothers and bassist Bruno Perot (Gash). After Perot's departure, other musicians participated in the band's compositions during his first 10 songs: the entry of new bass player, Louis Von Muhlen accession also brought in a keyboardist. Only after the entry of Miguel Salles de Moraes, the sound of the guy who won Austhral currently have. This period is practically the definition of the theme of the first work that the band would write and arrange most of the songs. With the departure of Von Muhlen, musicians began looking for a new bassist and a singer to make the project they had in mind. He then joined the band as bassist and vocalist Julian Leonardo Chagas Regis. With this lineup, the band played its first concerts in southern Brazil. During this period, the band released a promo with the songs they had composed, exclusive launch for the second show in the city of St. Joseph metropolitan area of Florianopolis. After a year and a half concert finally started recording his first album. Many setbacks have delayed the recording of this release, including the output of the vocal Juliano Regis, made then by bassist Leonardo Chagas. Produced by the band in partnership with the Santa Catarina Face The Abyss Records, Gilson Lange, the album was the result of persistence and courage of those who believed that you can innovate without falling into cliches of metal or surrender to the waves passing. Released in January 2008 by The Abyss Face, played the Wind is a metal album that tells a part of the history of southern Brazil: the period of the War of Tatters, a war that culminated in the creation of a republic to the south and led large part of southern tradition today.
